Chapter I

“Why don’t I know who I am?” I asked scared and confused. Three emotions flickered across his face as I spoke; shock, confusion and uncertainty. Then right back to confusion again. Great seems like he hasn't got a clue what’s going on.
“You don’t know who you are?” he asked, his voice sent shivers down my spine. It was like his voice was sweet but with a hint of danger.
“If I did, do you really think I’d be asking you?” I snapped, wow I’m bitch.
“I’m sorry but I don’t know who you are,” He said softly.
“Fine then, if you can’t tell me who I am can you tell me who you are? Why I’m here? Why you’re here? What the hell is going on? Or why I can’t remember anything?” I questioned, my voice rising with each word and my tone becoming more and more hysteric. The man looked away from my eyes and stared in shock at something near my hand. I turned to see what he was staring at, there were blue flames exploding from the palms of my hands. I screamed and started flailing my arms about as more and more flames exploded from my palms, growing larger and more violent.
“Shut up and stay calm! The flames will burn out if you just calm down!” The man ordered, “Trust me?” he added softly obviously seeing that screaming at me was not the best way to calm me down, idiot. I closed my eyes and eventually calmed myself, no thanks to that idiot standing right in front of me. It was then that I realised the fire didn't burn me, it almost tickled actually. I opened my eyes and saw the last of the flames flicker and die, they were actually one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, I think. The man offered me his hand and just as I reluctantly took it, a spark of something hit me. Images suddenly flashed through my head, battles, wars, orders, death, hundreds and thousands of years of history flashing through my head, and I felt such a strong feeling of obedience. These weren't just images, they were memories. This man, Thane, they were his memories I was seeing. Wait these people in his memories had wings. Holy crap, these people were freaking angels, which makes Thane a....
‘An angel? Yes he is. He was sent here to find you and protect you. He also has to serve you as well, which I personally think is hilarious!’ the voice laughed and disappeared. Jesus, this is one fucking messed up day, I thought and with that I passed out.
I woke up in a motel and I could tell Thane was worried. It was practically radiating and filling the room, you could almost choke on it.
“Are you okay? I’m so sorry, I have no idea what happened! Are you okay?” He asked warily.
“I’m fine, well as fine as could be for a girl who just had flames jutting out of her hands, meeting an angel and listening to some creepy voice in her head. Yeah that’s right I know what you are, Thane. How’s God these days? Still hanging out on clouds?” I said pointedly. He seemed to ignore my catty remarks. I’m guessing I don’t much like God and all that.
“Oh, interesting. I assumed as much. Anyway, we need to name you,” Thane said matter-of-factly. He is really starting to get on my nerves.
“Like what? Lucy or Kate? Bethany or Hope? Lilly or Britney? There are thousands of names and you want me to just pick one? Seriously?” I replied in disbelief. Jeez, the nerve on him.
“Well, what names appeals to you the most?” He asked casually.
“I don’t know! I’m still kind of dealing with the whole angels are real, fire spitting out of my hands and all that crap, okay?” I was really getting pissed now, I though angels would be a little more sensitive.
“There is also an apocalypse happening as well and all those creatures your kind make movies out of, they’re all real. So we must be careful,” He stated.
“Well don’t hold back or anything!” I snapped back sarcastically.
“Oh, yes. Sorry how inconsiderate of me, your still very fragile right now. I am truly sorry. How about you watch some television?” He said with a smile. I agreed, turned on the TV and flicked through the channels till I found a show with kids singing ‘Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day!’. I hated it when kids sung that to me. Then I remembered my name.
“That’s it! I remember my name!” I shouted joyously.
“What is it?” Thane asked.
“Raina but everyone called me Rain for short. I used to get teased about it when I was little!” I was so happy to remember my name again, there’s one piece of the puzzled done.
“Such a lovely name Raina” He complimented me with a smile. He had a sweet smile, but I couldn't tell if it was true or fake.
“I am so glad you remember your name, Rain. It’s so beautiful.”
